NYE 2011: Toga Time!

Most girls spend New Year's Eve in sequins and heels. I spent mine in a floral bedsheet purchased at Goodwill and occasionally used as a tablecloth. My friends Aubrey and Mitch hosted a toga party to ring in the new year, and it was a night of half-naked people drinking beer revelry and celebration. Let's take a look, shall we?

I went with a hula girl theme, but there were many interpretations of the classic toga style popularized in "Animal House", er, ancient Rome. One guy went with cheetah print, another channeled a pirate/ninja, another paid homage to the season in plaid flannel. One friend hadn't done laundry in a while and ended up pinning two pillowcases together. Two points for creativity, bro.

According to Wikipedia, the only women who wore togas in Rome were prostitutes. Whoopsie.

This party had it all. There was philosophizing.

And ancient Roman dancing rituals.

And the construction of soon-to-be-ruins.

We all hailed Caesar.

And basically partied like it was MMXI.

How'd you spend your New Year's Eve? Talk to me.

  4. Your toga party looks so fun! I went out with friends to a delish little restaurant, then out to a bar. Highlight: server at restaurant gave us half off a bottle of Prosecco, just because. Lowlight: free shots of Jim Beam being poured by bartenders from the bottle straight into party-goers mouths. It was really all downhill from there (i.e., we left the bar around 12:30 and retreated to the safety of our bed).
