Manhattan Graffiti Walk

Some people are mesmerized by the rapid pulse and blinking rainbow of Times Square. Others are bewitched by the glamour of high-end stores lining 5th Avenue. I have always been most fascinated by the city's grittier elements, and have a particular appreciation for some well-placed graffiti. Whether you consider it art or vandalism, it's impossible to deny that graffiti is as New York as bagels and the Yankees. I'm constantly taking pictures of graffiti I pass; here are some of my recent favorites.

Here's a link to some of the coolest graffiti in New York City. What do you think: Art or vandalism?

  1. That is so awesome, a real work of art; I wish the grafitti down here looked more like that then gang signs!

  2. ART! I love it the pictures are fabulous- when its done out of malice and not out of beauty then its vandalism... thats just my opinion though

  3. Art. But I guess it also depends on what's being vandalized (but that opens up the door for a lot of hypocrisy).

I love photographing street art, as well, and seeing the trends in different cities. It's great in Paris and Barcelona!

  4. Vanessa--totally agree with you on the graffiti in Barcelona. It was unbelievable and added so much character to the city (especially Bari Gotic neighborhood).

  5. I love looking at beautiful graffiti--the ones that have the awesome colors and art to go with it. I'm not into the ones that look like clear vandalism, though. That being said, LOL at the "Dog Days Ain't Over" one. That's funny stuff!

  7. Wow! Makes everything look so vibrant! Goodness, it's definitely a fine line between art/vandalism. I guess all good art makes you think/feel something, especially anything controversial:-) Taggers do it well! xoxo

  8. I love it, it's gorgeous. The mustache one is cool. I was actually driving up 95 through a less than stellar area and noticed some bright new yellow graffiti on the train trestle. It kinda made my day.
