Happy Birthday Elvis!

Elvis has left the building...but you guys already knew that. But did you know that if The King was still alive he'd be celebrating his 75th birthday this Sunday? Man, can you imagine a 75-year-old Elvis in this day and age? He'd probably have a flat-screen in every room at Graceland and perform duets with Lady Gaga wearing jumpsuits made of bacon.

If you don't have plans for this weekend, it'd be a perfect time to pull out some old Elvis records, run some grease through your sideburns and pour out some cream gravy for our dead homie. If I'd been more on the ball, I'd have thrown a big birthday party in his honor, and served up some of these Southern classics, well-known for being among his favorite dishes:

Bacon
(try glazing it with maple syrup and sprinkling with plenty of black pepper before broiling)

Chicken Fried Steak with Cream Gravy

Sweet Potato
(I topped mine with butter, thyme and a bit of maple syrup)

Banana Pudding

Fried Okra

Sweet Barbecue Sauce

Fried Green Tomatoes

"Till we meet again, may God bless you. Adios."

  1. I've heard one of his favorite sandwiches was:

    Bacon
    Jelly
    Peanut butter

    All on a roll!

I'll have to try that combination one day :P

  6. Jumpsuit made of bacon...idk if I will ever be able to get that image out of my mind. I think that just about all of Elvis' favorites are also mine. I have heard too though that he liked fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

  9. Oh my goodness I HOPE Elvis wouldn't perform a duet with Lady Gaga if he was still alive, that would be THE biggest disappointment ever! And girl, those pictures are killer! I got the biggest cravings now, ha!
