Happy Birthday Elvis!

Elvis has left the building...but you guys already knew that. But did you know that if The King was still alive he'd be celebrating his 75th birthday this Sunday? Man, can you imagine a 75-year-old Elvis in this day and age? He'd probably have a flat-screen in every room at Graceland and perform duets with Lady Gaga wearing jumpsuits made of bacon.

If you don't have plans for this weekend, it'd be a perfect time to pull out some old Elvis records, run some grease through your sideburns and pour out some cream gravy for our dead homie. If I'd been more on the ball, I'd have thrown a big birthday party in his honor, and served up some of these Southern classics, well-known for being among his favorite dishes:

(try glazing it with maple syrup and sprinkling with plenty of black pepper before broiling)

"Till we meet again, may God bless you. Adios."

  1. I've heard one of his favorite sandwiches was:

    Peanut butter

    All on a roll!

I'll have to try that combination one day :P

  2. OH
How can I get invited to one of these? You look like an amazing cook darling! :D

  3. Wow, that is a great collection of recipes! You should totally throw an Elvis party this weekend. I bet your friends would have a blast!

  4. Jenn!!!! Was this seriously ness?! I'm doing so good on day 6 of eating clean and you've up and done this! hahah The southern girl in me is about to ditch this bowl of vegetarian chili and make for some country cookin'! p.s. beeee-yotchhhhhhhhhhh hahaha

  5. Love the theme of this post. Happy belated Elvis. The banana pudding and fried okra definitely caught my eye. I've never had either one. Will have to try soon. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Jumpsuit made of bacon...idk if I will ever be able to get that image out of my mind. I think that just about all of Elvis' favorites are also mine. I have heard too though that he liked fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

  7. Ummmmmm, yeah...I want to eat each and every one of those right NOW!

  8. YYYUUUMMM!!! There's nothing like good southern cooking! I think I heard that he also liked grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches...breakfast?!

  9. Oh my goodness I HOPE Elvis wouldn't perform a duet with Lady Gaga if he was still alive, that would be THE biggest disappointment ever! And girl, those pictures are killer! I got the biggest cravings now, ha!

  10. I would love to throw or attend an Elvis birthday party. There are so many great southern treats I would want to sample (all of the ones on your list, for sure!) Thanks for sharing this with me. Elvis had good taste.

  11. Yeah, peanut butter & banana sandwiches definitely should be on this list...but I didn't have a photo lying around already like I did with the other ones:) Sorry for throwing chicken fried steak around during the first week of peoples' New Year's resolutions!

  12. Wow! I think my arteries clogged just looking at those pics... and I enjoyed every minute of it.

  13. Good Luck to anyone still trying to stick to a new years diet with these pics! I love the idea of an Elvis party, deepfried hamburgers anyone?

    Blue Skies,
    Charlotte xo
